An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 in the Richter scale hit central Philippines provinces yesterday (February 6).  Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology in Quezon City said the tremor occurred at 11:49 a.m. with its epicenter traced five kilometers northwest of Tayasan, Negros Oriental.

The tremor was strongly felt at intensity 7 in Dumaguete City; intensity 6 in La Carlota City and La Castellana, Negros Occidental; and intensity 5 in Roxas City, Dao and Ivisan, Capiz and Iloilo City.

It was also felt at intensity 4 in San Jose de Buenavista and Pandan, Antique; Ayungon, Negros Orienta; Kalibo, Aklan; Sagay, Negros Occidental; and Dipolog City; intensity 3 in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte; Legaspi City, Albay; and Carmen, Cagayan de Oro; and intensity 2 in Cabid-an, Sorsogon.

The strong earthquake collapsed many houses, bridges and roads that cut off access to many places in the provinces. The death toll has already reached 43 and 73 more people were still missing.

Monday's quake was caused by movement in an undersea fault 44 miles (72 kilometers) north of Dumaguete, capital of Negros Oriental province, and about 400 miles (650 kilometers) southeast of the nation's capital, Manila. It hit at a depth of 29 miles (46 kilometers).

The Philippines is located in the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where earthquakes and volcanic activity are common. The damage and casualties are compounded by shoddy construction in the impoverished nation.

The constant bombardment of radiation coming from the sun can wreak havoc on the face of the earth. CMEs released by X-class solar flares have brought strong earthquakes in many countries on earth before. The year 2012 is a solar maximum, which means the sun would experience constant solar explosions. This is the reason why many people are scared of the year 2012.

We have experienced an X-class solar flare on January 27 similar to what we have in the year 2005. It had ripped the face of the earth in Afar, Ethiopia on September, 2005 and we are waiting for that rupture to grow wider and longer, even extending as far as the Middle East this year.

2012 is a Hollywood movie showing how the end of the world shall  happen in the year 2012.

The angel of death made its rounds in the Philippine sky for days before the earthquake struck.
